To increase ambition on protection and restoration – we must:

  1. Scale-up ambition on protection, increasing to at least 30% coverage of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030.
  2. Improve the connectivity, representativeness, and effectiveness of protected areas.
  3. Protect and restore areas that safeguard our water and food supplies, sustain nature-based livelihoods, and buffer us from disasters.
  4. Protect and restore areas essential for carbon storage, especially forests, mangroves, wetlands, grasslands.
  5. Restore degraded soils by practicing regenerative agriculture and agroforestry.
