Commodity production and supply chains play an important role in national economies and national development plans. High demand for many commodities is leading to the accelerated destruction of biodiversity, which is resulting in social, economic, and ecological consequences. It is critical for every actor in the supply chain to promote the sustainable production of commodities.
The goal of this module is to help you understand SCSCs, and how the implementation of SCSCs helps achieve implementation of global agreements such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) SCSCs can also support the implementation of central policy instruments for national biodiversity management, such as National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
