The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework outlines an ambitious global strategy to transform society's relationship with biodiversity. Policy coherence and alignment are critical for action across all 4 goals and 23 targets of the Framework and are highlighted in Target 14 on integrating biodiversity into decision-making at every level. The need for alignment across policies, sectors, and actors is highlighted in Decision 15/6, which “encourages Parties to adopt the revised or updated NBSAPs as policy and/or legal instruments and to mainstream them (or elements thereof) with broader strategies and plans, such as national sustainable development plans, national development plans, poverty reduction strategies and other relevant national sectoral and cross-sectoral plans, in line with national circumstances and priorities.”

Around the world, governments are leading efforts to fast-track readiness and early actions for policy alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. During this webinar, countries will showcase innovative national approaches and good practices for policy coherence and alignment, in support of peer-to-peer learning and South-South collaboration. The webinar will also provide case studies from countries to help articulate and understand issues better. Participants will also learn about the tools and support available to conduct similar analysis and develop national action plans for policy coherence and alignment.

Webinar objectives

During this webinar, countries will showcase their innovative national approaches and good practices for policy alignment, in support of peer-to-peer learning and South-South collaboration.

This webinar will: 

• Provide a brief overview of component 3 of the EAS Project on policy and institutional alignment.
• Showcase national approaches to policy alignment and institutional alignment and facilitate peer-to-peer learning.
• Explore tools and support available under the EAS Project for countries to conduct analyses and develop national action plans for policy alignment.
