This webinar focuses on the technical support package available to support your assessment of national monitoring systems and the development of national monitoring action plans (project component 2).  Building on Webinar 6 (Nov. 2023), we will highlight newly released guidance and tools focused on the use of spatial data to support the development of national monitoring plans. Our speakers  aim to provide concrete recommendations to support Parties to identify spatial data for indicator calculation as part of a national monitoring system plan based on Monitoring framework for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework  (Decision 15/5) and the ongoing work of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Indicators. . Participants will have an opportunity to interact with technical experts, ask questions, and share their experiences to support progress around the development of plans for national monitoring systems. We will also launch our new guidance Using Spatial Data to Support the Development of Plans for National Monitoring Systems for the Global Biodiversity Framework and the new UN Biodiversity Lab Data Collection on the GBF Monitoring Framework.

Webinar objectives

This webinar will introduce the guidance products through the EAS Component 2 that serve as resources for Parties and others on the development of national monitoring plans for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, with a focus on the newly released products around spatial data.

Specific objectives

This webinar will:

• Summarize the recommendations provided by the Monitoring Framework (Decision 15/5) and the role of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Working Group (AHTEG) on Indicators for the use in relation to the utilization of spatial data for indicator calculation to support Parties in their work to develop national monitoring systems;
• Introduce the technical guidance Using Spatial Data to Support the Development of National Monitoring Plans for the KM-GBF, which provides information on identifying and using spatial data for national monitoring systems,
• Introduce the GBF Monitoring Framework Data Collection on UNBL, which provides access to the spatial data recommended for indicator calculation at the national level in the Monitoring Framework;
• Highlight forthcoming resources available for country use through UNBL to support Parties in their planning, monitoring, and reporting on the GBF; and
• Create an engaging and open environment for participants to ask questions and develop relationships with other Parties and technical experts.
